1R First Graders work really hard in class, and Bearthoven was ready to learn right alongside the students.  He practiced printing his capital and lowercase letters on the white board, was shown how to use a jeweler’s loupe to observe mystery seeds, and even planted mystery seeds.  One of his favorite parts of the day was when students shared their ideas with partners or small groups.  We call it a “turn and talk”.  During a turn and talk, first graders give their opinions or share their experiences with others.  We then come back together as a class and talk about our ideas.  Bearthoven liked to listen to the 1R students as they shared with one another.
