As Bessie Bear’s visit to our classroom drew to a close, the students all agreed that we should hold a celebration party for her. Some wanted to have a birthday party. But, once we looked up her date of birth in her passport, we realised that we’d missed her birthday by just one month.
So, an indoor Teddy Bear’s picnic was the order of the day – it was simply too too hot outside.
On Thursday we spent the whole day baking brown bread in the classroom so that we could eat it with delicious honey at the picnic.
On Friday, it was picnic day. Most of our Mum’s and Dad’s and Nannies came along to share the day with the students and their bears – and of course Bessie! We sang the Teddy Bear’s picnic song, read lots of bear books, threaded marshmallows on skewers for a delicious treat, made teddy bear cookies from play dough and printed little cards with bears. For these cards we explored the mathematical concept of Big, medium and small using circle stamps in these sizes to create our bear pictures.
