Jessie spent the month of October with the second graders at Westlake Academy. The school is located in the suburbs of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. She arrived just in time to begin an inquiry into the ways health requires a balance of many different factors.
Jessie cheered on the second graders as they engaged in many activities related to personal, physical, social, mental, and spiritual health. Take a look at all the fun and learning Jessie experienced!
Jessie became aware of mindfulness through yoga practice.
Jessie explored inequity of food distribution around the world. Jessie and her second grade friends received paper bags, each containing different amounts of food an treats. She had to reflect on her feelings once she saw different people had different quantities. Jessie learned that we need to take action to ensure people around the world have equal access to healthy food.
Jessie investigated how iron is found in iron-fortified cereal. She loved being a scientist studying nutrition in the lab!
Jessie helped pack snack packs for members of the local community during a visit to a food pantry.
