Before Max came to Naperville, Illinois, USA, the 2nd graders at Scott Elementary School did not know when he would arrive. They had seen his picture online, but he came all dressed up, and it was very exciting. When Max got here, it was warm outside, but as October and November went on, the leaves changed colors and fell to the ground and it started to snow! Luckily, Max was warm and cozy with his fur coat in our classroom. Max also had fun joining us for our Halloween parade and party!
As our month with Max continued, we had opportunities to read with him, and we took him on a field trip. We went to an estimation lab at the DuPage Children’s Museum and learned how to estimate. We estimated how many bean bags we thought Max weighed. We thought he might weigh 8 bean bags, but he actually weighed 19 bags!
Max sat in the front of our classroom and joined us as we learned about measurement, finding the central message of stories, and writing small moment stories.
His shoes kept coming untied, so we had to keep tying his shoes for him! 2nd graders got a lot of practice with how to tie shoelaces with Max. Thanks for visiting the United States, Max! Enjoy your visit to Ukraine!!!
