Thanks to national public health efforts, our community remained safe and healthy through the COVID19 crisis, and schools in Vietnam were able to reopen in late May. We are so grateful that our children and staff were able to end the year together on campus.
Barney spent the last weeks of the school year with our Early Explorers classes. He was very happy to meet children and teachers at both campuses!
The Early Explorers absolutely loved spending time with Barney! As the children love using paper for their creations, it was wonderful having Barney visit us and share his knowledge on responsible consumption. We learned that paper comes from trees and that using a lot of paper means cutting down more trees, so we must be mindful of how much paper we use and try our best not to waste it.
Barney has also taught us the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) which has helped us to make his face mask and help protect him from bad germs. The children helped to create a reusable facemask for Barney, using repurposed fabric and elastic. As we are aware the mask may be a little difficult to reattach once taken off, here is the video we used for inspiration – it will assist you in retying Barney’s mask and to make your own mask, if you wish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r51YroAFPds
The children also loved collaborating to make a repurposed-material shoulder bag for Barney to take with him on his global travels! This handmade bag is big enough to hold his passport and hand sanitizer!
Barney wears a mask because he knows how important it is to keep himself and everyone around him safely protected from droplets! Wearing a reusable fabric mask helps keep our planet healthy too. In this way, Barney shows kindness to himself and to the world around him.
Thank you, Barney, for being such a good friend to all of the Early Explorers at KC2! We loved having you here and will miss you as you continue your journey onwards. Stay safe and healthy!
Big hugs to you from Ms Beth, Ms Thuy, Ms Julie, and all 11 EE friends!
