Sawadee kha, Jerry!

Welcome to American Pacific International School Primary! We were so happy to have you here to visit us.

What an amazing adventure we have had with Jerry at our school. He was able to experience many cultural events, as well as spend time with students in our Grade 2 classes.

As a strong supporter of Global Goal #12: Responsible Consumption and Production, Jerry helped us to understand what sustainability is. We looked at how people all over the world help to recycle, reduce our waste, and take action in our personal lives. We looked at how much food we take at lunch and practiced not taking more than we need. This way we can save food instead of wasting it. We also enjoyed having Jerry here during Earth Day. Our school is looking at ways to reduce our waste and try to use materials in ways we didn’t think of before. Thank you for helping us learn!

Also while Jerry was here, he participated in Thai New Year which falls over April 13 – 15. It is a holiday called Songkran where the city turns into a big water fight. The water represents purification and washing away sins and bad luck. Jerry purchased a water gun and sprayed water on many people that passed by him. It is such a fun time of year and brings so much joy to the community.

Jerry got to taste many new foods at the street food carts near our school. It turns out he really likes Khao Soi which is a special dish in Northern Thailand. It is made with fried egg noodles, boiled egg noodles, and curry sauce with coconut milk. He even liked to add some extra spicy chili. It is so yummy – he licked his bowl clean!

Once he finished his meal he was able to try Bua Loy. You can learn all about the foods, activities, and culture of Thailand in the Google Slides presentation below.

We will miss you, Jerry! We hope you have a wonderful rest in Hong Kong before you begin traveling the world again next year! Chok dee (good luck)!
