Karima in West Vancouver, BC, Canada

When Karima arrived at Collingwood School, the Junior Kindergartners were so excited to welcome her into their classrooms. She enjoyed her time at both the Eagles’ Nest and the Bears’ Den where she engaged alongside the classroom explorations and daily routines.

Each of the classes had been busily preparing for Karima’s arrival and made her a home, furnished with all the things she might need to feel comfortable during her visit.

The children were very excited to share the books, gardening tools and gifts that they had made for her and show her the swimming pool they had designed for her. As the students continued to learn about Karima’s travels and about koalas as a species, they thought that Karima may enjoy spending time in trees where she can find eucalyptus leaves to eat. This inspired the students in the Bears Den to relocate Karima’s home to a large branch.

In the Eagles’ Nest, Karima was invited to learn some early coding skills as she played with the bee-bots! She also joined the student in building with hollow blocks. Everyone was so excited to invite Karima try out the car that they had constructed for her!

Karima is spending her final days in Canada and is looking forward to seeing her friends in Oregon very soon!
