For my Grade 3 French Immersion class from Uxbridge, ON, the “Traveling Teddy” experience was a little different than most. Matteo arrived to my school over the March break and due to the school closure until the end of June, unfortunately my students could not meet him. I picked him up from the post office and sent my students a video opening up the box and looking at all of the pictures, activities, drawings, letters and souvenirs that came alongside Matteo – we were so excited to read about his adventures in other countries around the world! My students also received letters from the school who had Matteo before us (a school in Ireland). They typed letters back to those students and I passed them along to their teacher via email. The students loved to see that children from another country have so much in common with children in Canada and they had many of the same interests! I also posted read alouds and pictures of myself with Matteo. We had a blast recording videos to send to my grade 3 students during “distance learning”!
